Compare Memory Foam VS. Air Chamber Mattresses
The Basics of Air Chamber Bed vs. Visco Elastic Memory Foam Bed
The air chamber bed is designed using many cushioning chambers of air throughout the air chamber mattress. The air chambers in the bed can be adjusted to different levels of firmness or gentleness all controlled by the air chamber bed user.
The basic structure of an air chamber bed consists of a beam element which allows the air chamber to adjust when the air chamber mattress owner changes the settings. The air chamber itself which is beneath the reinforced beams consists of several sealed vulcanized, 24 gauge rubber air chambers which are bonded with materials such as cotton in order to keep the air chambers from over stretching and breaking.
These air chamber mattress elements are usually surrounded by a high density foam in order to keep the bed stable and from sagging on the edges. There is also a remote which controls a pump beneath the air chamber mattress that the air chamber bed owner keeps attached to the air chamber bed. This is all housed on top of a solid foundation beneath the air chamber mattress.
Support Layer or Core:
Beneath the memoryfoam layer is an orthopedic support layer or core. The support core in most high quality memory foam mattress layers usually consists of either 100% natural latex, Talalay latex or blended latex in most high-quality memory foam mattresses, or polyurethane. The core layer in memory foam mattresses provides the much needed pressure point relief, which causes discomfort, as well as back support.
The Benefits of Air Chamber Bed vs. Visco Elastic Memory Foam Bed
The main benefit of an air chamber bed is the ability to adjust the air chamber mattress firmness on both sides of the air chamber bed. The air chamber mattress owners could have the air chamber mattress firmer on one side and the other softer.
The air chamber mattress can help relieve pain through adjustments made by the individual. Air chamber mattresses can be easily cleaned from the inside; also the materials used for air chamber beds inhibit growth of allergens and microorganisms which can cause allergic reactions in some individuals.
With the total control a person has with an air chamber mattress, the air chamber mattress can provide pain relief and improve sleep quality as a result of this level of comfort.
Memory foam mattresses offer something quite different, however. Visco elastic memory foam automatically conforms to your body through its temperature sensitive memory foam material.
Air chamber beds have to be adjusted and are not temperature sensitive. On the air chamber beds that we have tried, we were only able to control three vertical areas: lower (by feet), middle region and upper (by neck).
In regards to the electrical aspect of air chamber beds, what happens if the electricity goes out or even shorts out a part of the air chamber bed?
We have done our research and found that most air chamber bed manufacturers will not cover ‘acts of God’ such as damage as a result of lightning. So, the memory foam in a visco elastic mattress provides all of the same effects that an air chamber bed does only it does it automatically rather than by machines, pumps, or remote controls.
The Basics of Memory Foam Mattresses
Memory Foam:
Not all memory foam mattresses are the same. There several different ways manufacturers produce memory foam mattresses. In general, most memory foam sleep systems consist of a viscoelastic or memory foam layer of body weight and body temperature sensitive pressure relieving visco elastic memory foam material for comfort. This visco memory foam material consists of thousands of tiny memory foam cells which adjust and expand in response to pressure being added and relieved by body weight. This visco memory foam material is five times denser than standard foam.
Benefits of Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattresses:
Better Sleep Position from the cradling visco elastic memory foam. Better for Spine Alignment through neutral position reinforced by the contouring memory foam.
No more sagging mattresses as compared to spring mattresses, as high quality visco memory foam mattresses consist of high density visco elastic foam.
Naturally resistant to dust mites and other microorganisms due to the materials the memory foam mattress is made of.
Many higher-quality memory foam mattresses made from all-natural materials such as latex.
Modern sleep technology developed by NASA to help redistribute g-force pressure from liftoff.
Temperature-sensitive material which softens as it heats up against your body. Air-exchange systems which allow for prevention of an uncomfortably hot mattress. Designed for astronauts, Affordable for everyone.
Competitive manufacturer warranties which can be compared in the Compare Brands section.
